How To Create An Emergency Plan

Have a family or household meeting. Discuss what possible emergencies you could face such as fire, earthquake or severe weather.
Find spots in your home that will be a safe place for each emergency
Draw a floor plan and mark two ways to get out of every room
Discuss what to do about electric power blackouts or personal injuries
Post emergency telephone numbers by each phone
Have battery operated radios available and turn them on in an emergency to get instructions
Designate a meeting place outside the house where everyone knows to meet in the event of a fire
Pick a place to meet outside of your neighborhood in case you cannot get home
Take a basic first aid and CPR class
Keep records in water and fire proof containers
