How To Create An Emergency Plan
  • Have a family or household meeting. Discuss what possible emergencies you could face such as fire, earthquake or severe weather.
  • Find spots in your home that will be a safe place for each emergency
  • Draw a floor plan and mark two ways to get out of every room
  • Discuss what to do about electric power blackouts or personal injuries
  • Post emergency telephone numbers by each phone
  • Have battery operated radios available and turn them on in an emergency to get instructions
  • Designate a meeting place outside the house where everyone knows to meet in the event of a fire
  • Pick a place to meet outside of your neighborhood in case you cannot get home
  • Take a basic first aid and CPR class
  • Keep records in water and fire proof containers
