Do you often feel worried, afraid, or uneasy? Have feelings of frustration or anger? Have trouble sleeping? Are you eating too much – or too little? Having aches and pains that you can’t explain? These are all possible signs of stress.

If you have any of these feelings, you are not alone. Everyone feels stress – sometimes more, sometimes less. Some stress is okay, even helpful. But feeling stress all the time can make you sick.

Learn and use these tips for managing stress. They will help you have a healthier, happier mind and body.

Causes of Stress

First, try and figure out what is causing your stress. Ask yourself these questions. Use the “How Are You Feeling? How Stressed Are You?” questionnaire to record your answers.

In the past month did I feel:

  • Uneasy, worried, or afraid?
  • People were being mean or picking on me?
  • I had too much to do?
  • Angry because of something that happened?

If the answer is YES to any of these questions, ask yourself:

  • What made me feel that way?

If you are having trouble answering these questions, you may want to keep a daily log for a couple of weeks. Write down people, places, or activities that cause you to feel stress. What happened and how did it make you feel?

You may need some help. Talk to your supporter or someone you trust to get help. Brainstorm together and make a plan. Ask yourself:

  • What things can I do that will help me to feel less stress?
