Assessment and Treatment of Elopement: A Replication and Extension

This month we are providing a link to a research article by Rachel S.F. Tarbox, Michele D. Wallace, and Larry Williams of the University of Nevada-Reno. The article describes the methods used to assess and successfully treat the elopement behavior of persons with developmental disabilities. In this study, elopement is defined as "running or walking away from a caregiver without consent". The research focused on a behavioral approach used in a prior study and was applied in the settings in which elopement typically occurred.

The article, "Assessment and Treatment of Elopement: A Replication and Extension", is published in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Volume 36, Pages 239-244, Summer, 2003.
